The Civil Police of Roraima (PCRR), through the Child and Adolescent Protection Department (DPCA), carried out on the night of Friday, May 30, and into the early hours of Saturday, May 31, a crackdown on bars in Boa Vista as part of the Safe Paths Operation, coordinated nationally by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP). The actions took place in the neighborhoods Jardim Primavera, Equatorial, and Nova Canaã, focusing on combating sexual exploitation and the sale of alcohol to minors.

The Safe Paths Operation began on May 1 and concluded on May 31, after a month of intensive activities aimed at protecting vulnerable children and adolescents. The bar inspections were one of several initiatives carried out by PCRR during this period.

The operation was coordinated by Deputy Director of DPCA, Matheus Rezende, with support from the Director of the Department of Specialized Police (DPE), Delegate Marcus Albano; Delegate Franco Ghiggi of the Elderly and Disabled Persons Protection Police Station (DPIDPC); and members of the Guardianship Council. The establishments inspected had been previously identified based on reports and investigations, with authorization and oversight from the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

During the inspection, a 14-year-old girl was caught drinking alcohol inside one of the bars. The owner of the establishment, C.R.N.S., aged 66, and an attendant, R.S.A., aged 29 and the girl’s aunt, were arrested in flagrante delicto, according to Article 243 of the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA), which criminalizes the sale, supply, or delivery of alcohol or addictive products to minors under 18.

(Penalty: imprisonment from 2 to 4 years and a fine, if the act does not constitute a more serious crime.)

“This was a targeted action based on concrete information gathered during the operation. We found the minor consuming alcohol in the company of her aunt. Both adults were immediately arrested and taken to the police station,” said Delegate Matheus Rezende.

The adolescent was heard and later handed over to the Guardianship Council, while the two adults were formally charged with the crime.

According to the delegate, the conclusion of the operation reinforces PCRR’s commitment to strict enforcement against crimes involving minors.

“It was a full month of intensive activity, with actions across various parts of the city. The closure of this operation with arrests in flagrante delicto is further proof that the Civil Police of Roraima will not tolerate crimes against children and adolescents. We will continue to act firmly and responsibly, always within the law, to protect our children and punish those who put them at risk.”
